Annotated Hellebores

This *gliclee print is of a hand stitched and painted silk panel of flowers chosen for their specific meanings. Often my work includes symbols and hidden messages and for centuries, flowers have held many meanings in different cultures, eg. ” pansies for thoughts” and think of all those red roses given for everlasting love on Valentines day. 

 Hellebores, like many of my favourite flowers, are poisonous from root to petal, hence the very apt description of the year that I made this work in.
